Greetings Friends,
It is National Disability Employment Awareness (NDEAM) Month and we are celebrating the many gifts people with disabilities bring to employers. There are so many benefits to hiring people with disabilities. Not the least of which is high quality work and dedication. Besides getting the job done, hiring people with disabilities changes the culture of a workplace for the better. It broadens the understanding of people without disabilities. Instead of assuming someone cannot do the job if they have a disability, they are able to see in action that indeed they can!
And just like all the rest of us, work can give meaning to one’s life. I love my job at New Hope! Working allows us to be part of a community, add meaning to our lives and receive a paycheck! All of which matter in one’s life.
At New Hope, we strive for inclusion of people with disabilities in the workforce. Through our Vocational Services program we look for innovative employment placements. For example, we serve a young man who works at Urban Outfitters, a person who works in the call center for Anthem and another person who is a swim instructor at LA Fitness. What cool jobs!
Please consider hiring a person with a disability to work in your company. You won’t regret it!!
