12 Apr Volunteer Appreciation at New Hope
April is National Volunteer Month!
In 2021, New Hope’s volunteers provided nearly 1,000 hours of service to our mission despite the continued challenges of a global pandemic. From Board members and committee volunteers to corporate partners and friends of New Hope, our volunteers enrich the lives of the individuals and families that we serve. This month, we want to say a special thank you to a few of these dedicated volunteers.
Not only did Kathe Rae devote her nearly 40-year career to New Hope, she continues to serve our mission even in her retirement, coming nearly every week to work in the garden with individuals at our Day Services program. She continues to maintain the deep friendships that she enjoyed during her time as an associate and brings such joy to the lives of the individuals she works with. Kathe’s dedication is so appreciated!
Liz Hoover
Thank you to our Board Chair, Liz Hoover, for her six years of service to New Hope’s mission. Under Liz’s leadership, New Hope has developed new associate recognition and development opportunities to support #TeamNewHope personally and professionally. We have also grown our diversity and inclusion efforts, our volunteer program and our recruitment efforts. Thanks to Liz for her dedicated leadership and long-time support of New Hope of Indiana!
New Hope volunteer Gay Burkhart and her pup Sammy spend most Friday mornings reading with our Bookworms book club over Zoom. Throughout the height of the pandemic, Gay was a bright and consistent presence for many of our individuals whose services and lives had been interrupted by COVID-19. Gay is also a dependable helper for special events, creative projects and other activities that support our mission every day. Thank you to Gay for her dedication to enriching the lives of others!
Kiwanis Club of Northwest Indianapolis
The local Kiwanis Club has been a partner to New Hope of Indiana for well over 30 years. Most recently, the Kiwanis Club of Northwest Indianapolis has been a vital partner to New Hope’s mission. Kiwanis has sponsored the Fall Festival each year and offers New Hope clients leadership development and service opportunities through their Aktion Club program.
Even through the pandemic, Kiwanis volunteers made a significant effort to keep New Hope’s clients engaged despite the social isolation of the pandemic. These volunteers have been champions for the individuals we serve and for our mission for decades. Thank you!
