Today, the New Hope Day Service Program held its very first picnic at our shelter house—and we had an amazing time!

We spent the afternoon outside enjoying a full lineup of activities. Soccer and volleyball brought energy and teamwork among individuals and associates alike. The baseball throw gave everyone a chance to show off their arm, while Connect 4 and bean bag tic-tac-toe offered friendly competition at a more relaxed pace. No matter which activity we chose, there was space for every person to join in and have fun.

Creativity was in full swing with face painting. Colorful designs turned smiles into works of art, and the laughter that came with it made the moment even better. Of course, we had a dance party as well! We moved, laughed, and celebrated together turning the shelter house into our own summer stage. The day also gave us a chance to celebrate our July birthdays.  When it was time to eat, staff grilled up a delicious meal that filled the air with great smells, and the food was so good!

More than games and good food, the picnic was a chance for us to step outside our usual routine, try new things, cheer each other on, and simply enjoy being together. In the words of Austin, “It is a great day for a picnic. The weather is nice – not too hot. It’s a great day.” The sunshine, the smiles, and the shared moments made it a day we’ll remember. This first-ever Day Service summer picnic felt like the start of a new tradition. We’re already looking forward to the next one.
