May in Indianapolis is truly one-of-a-kind. Each year, the Indianapolis 500 draws racing fans from across the world to experience the thrill of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. At New Hope of Indiana, we make sure the individuals we support can fully take part in the celebrations through a variety of special events.

This year, New Hope kicked things off on Tuesday, May 5th with our annual Indy 500 Princess Party and Parade at the Payne Road building. Pace carsdriven by John Gause, JJ Nelson, Travis Brown, Diana Talley, and Ellen Saul gave individuals from AIM and Day Services an unforgettable ride. Four 500 Festival princesses enhanced the fun, including 500 Festival Queen Scholar, Hailey Ready, and former New Hope intern, Treyanna Moten. We extend our sincere thanks to all the pace truck drivers and princesses for making the day so memorable.

New Hope also took part in the beloved Friends of the Fox program, founded by late racecar driver Stan Fox to include people with disabilities in the excitement of race month. Over four incredible days, participants enjoyed a McDonald’s breakfast, a walk through Gasoline Alley, a tour of the museum, and the chance to watch practice sessions on the track. This year brought an extra highlight, as some of our individuals had the opportunity to meet the 110th Indianapolis 500 winner, Felix Rosenqvist. We are deeply thankful to the 16th Street McDonald’s team for the breakfast and to Bill Ray and Ron Kucer for keeping Stan’s vision alive.

In addition, the 500 Festival generously provided New Hope with 40 tickets for the 500 Parade on May 23rd, complete with a police escort for individuals using wheelchairs. It was a joyful and inclusive day for everyone involved.
