15 May Service Spotlight: Betsy Gorman
Ten Years ago, Betsy was interested in looking for a new job and found New Hope in a roundabout way. Her mother had surgery at St. Vincent, and Betsy was very impressed with the care and how compassionate the staff were throughout her mom’s hospitalization. Betsy had experience as a DSP and while searching potential agencies serving persons with developmental disabilities, she saw St. Vincent New Hope. She thought New Hope must be a good organization since it was a part of the St. Vincent system. She was hired as team leader in SILP (now FCS) and ten years later, Betsy still feels New Hope is the best!
For last several years, Betsy has worked as a Team Leader in the Supported Living Program. With Betsy’s friendly and caring personality, she easily builds positive relationships with the individuals she serves and with associates, both on her team and among her peers. She “loves, loves, loves” helping the individuals be involved in what they most enjoy as well as looking for new interesting, meaningful and fun experiences.
When New Hope pursued a Kiwanis Aktion Club to provide clients with opportunities to learn leadership skills and be more involved in their community by volunteering with special projects, Betsy was asked to help facilitate the club. She has really enjoyed the club community and social activities. Betsy also coordinates an annual trip to Indiana Beach, which has become a favorite Summer event for many of the clients and associates. Always willing to help, Betsy recently became an ambassador for New Hope’s Walking for Dreams fundraiser, a team walk in downtown Indy (happening this year on Sunday, May 19th).
Betsy is married to Jason, has a son, David, and a daughter, Sarah. She is very proud that Sarah serves as a DSP in Supported Living. Betsy also has a 7-year old grandson, Leo, who she says is her heart. She has loved watching him grow up and enjoys reading with him and doing all things related to sports. While work and her family keep her busy, she finds time to attend concerts and go to the beach.
Congratulations to Betsy for ten years of dedication, compassion, creativity and team spirit! Thank you for your service!!
