Donald Hardy- 5/19/2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Hardy, also known as Smiley. Donald joined the New Hope family in November 2023 when he moved into his home on East 41st Street.

Donald was a joyful soul whose life touched many hearts. Anyone who came in contact with him will never forget him. His smile, gentle heart, uplifting presence, and sincere love for people made him truly unforgettable. Donald loved the Lord deeply and lived with a genuine spiritual warmth that everyone could feel.

One of Donald’s special gifts was creating hand-drawn calendars with clever rhymes at the bottom, bringing smiles and creativity to those around him. He also found peace and happiness playing the piano, filling rooms with music and warmth.

Donald especially cherished his housemates, the 41st Street team, and his close bond with his sisters—Kathy, Anita, Phyllis, and Doris. Family meant everything to him, and he made sure those he loved knew how much they mattered.

Donald “Smiley’s” life was a beautiful reflection of love, faith, friendship, and compassion. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. We extend our deepest sympathies to Donald’s family, housemates, staff, and everyone who considered him a friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Candice “Candy” Skillman- 5/23/2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Candice “Candy” Skillman. Candice passed away on May 23, 2026, with family at the bedside.

Candy joined the New Hope family on January 28, 2024, when her previous care provider transitioned residential services to New Hope. During Candice’s time at New Hope, Candy enjoyed attending day program and was truly a social butterfly. Due to her increased medical needs, Candy transitioned from her home to skilled nursing care in January 2025.

Although served by New Hope for a short time, Candy captured our hearts with a joyous spirit and contagious laughter. We extend our deepest sympathies to Candice’s family, former housemates, staff, and all who considered Candy a friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
