On October 11^th, 2024, New Hope of Indiana celebrated the lives of the individuals who passed this year. The service took place in the Compassus Chapel where 64 friends, family, and loved ones gathered to honor Patricia Reed, Bill Samaras, Willie Daniel, Susan Sheffler, Kevin Munas, Stacia Lybarger, Ronald “Ron” Blackburn, Charles “Chuck” Sward, and Rebecca Ofengender.

Susan Robinson, former New Hope employee and current board member opened the service with a scripture reading, followed by Cassi Dean, Director of Supported Living, who shared a prayer. Associates from New Hope then spoke about each individual.  One after another, they shared memories, heartfelt stories, and how each individual made an impact in the lives of those around them.  Musulyn Travers, Day Services Team Leader, filled the chapel in a beautiful rendition of Amazing Grace.

Susan then opened the floor up to anyone who would like to share a memory. Chuck’s sister told stories about his humor. Ron’s old roommates talked about their memories with him. Willie’s friends from day services spoke about how they knew him and the fun they had together. Finally, Rebecca Ofengender’s brother, Joe, closed the service with a prayer that is used in the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur. Joe gave an emotional tribute to the lives of all the individuals who had passed.

The Celebration of Life service is more than mourning the people who have left us; it is a way to pay tribute their precious and impactful memory. It provides an opportunity for family and friends to remember the how Patricia, Bill, Willie, Susan, Kevin, Stacia, Ron, Chuck, and Rebecca made a positive impact in the world.
