New Hope Holds Celebration of Life for Individuals Who Passed This Year
On October 3rd, New Hope of Indiana gathered to celebrate the lives of the individuals we lost this year. Seventy-two friends, family members, and loved ones came together to honor Blanchy Young, Patricia Holman, Jerry DeBaun, Delisha Webster, and Deb Sherry. Five remarkable individuals whose spirits continue to inspire us.
The service was led by Susan Robinson, a former New Hope employee and current emeritus board member, who shared touching reflections about each person and the impact they had on our community. Musulyn Travers, Day Services Team Leader, filled the Rendu Room with her moving rendition of Amazing Grace, bringing many to tears.
Following the song, New Hope associates shared personal memories and stories, highlighting the joy and love that Blanchy, Patricia, Jerry, Delisha, and Deb brought into the lives of others. Everyone was surprised and touched by a special recording of Blanchy singing Up Above My Head, which filled the room with her enduring voice and spirit.
Susan then invited anyone who wished to share a memory to come forward. Housemates spoke about the deep friendships they shared, while New Hope associates recounted meaningful moments and laughter that defined their time together. Family members expressed heartfelt gratitude to New Hope for the care, compassion, and dignity shown to their loved ones — both in life and in death.
To close the ceremony, Allison offered a reflection that left few dry eyes in the room, capturing the love and loss felt by all present.
The Celebration of Life service is more than a time of mourning; it is a powerful tribute to the lives and legacies of those who have passed. It offers a space to honor their memories, share their stories, and reflect on how Blanchy, Patricia, Jerry, Delisha, and Deb made our world brighter through their presence.
