Month of May Celebrations

Month of May Celebrations

We take the Month of May seriously here at New Hope of Indiana! Throughout the month, the individuals we serve get to enjoy several celebrations that build anticipation for ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing’. Here is an inside look at how New Hope gears up for the Indianapolis 500.

At the beginning of May, New Hope’s Achieving Inclusion and Meaning (AIM) group starts the celebration by attending the 500 Festival Kickoff to May event in Monument Circle. At the event, individuals served got to meet 500 Festival Princesses, see some Indy cars and pace cars and take photos in front of some fun backdrops!

The next Month of May event was our Day Services and AIM 500 Festival Princess Party. During this event, we headed out to New Hope’s parking lot and individuals served had the opportunity to ride in an Indy 500 truck. Since we have such a high demand at this event, several associates brought their convertible vehicles and had 500 Festival Princesses sit on the back while they gave rides to Day Services and AIM participants. After the rides, we went inside for a dance party and cake and took pictures with the 500 Festival Princesses.

Thank you to 500 Festival board members John Gause of Apex Benefits and JJ Nelson of Delta Dental for bringing their trucks for this event! We also are appreciative to princesses Gracie Madison and Caitlyn Cook for spending the morning with us.

Next up: Friends of the Fox. This event has been going on for nearly 30 years! From May 14-17, volunteers Bill Ray and Ron Kucer with Friends of the Fox brought 100 individuals served by New Hope and their caregivers to the Speedway. During the event, individuals received complimentary breakfast from a McDonald’s near the track. Then, the group caravaned over to the Speedway where they toured the garage area and watched practice. This year, Phil Sanchez with WISH-TV spotlighted the Friends of the Fox event on his segment, UnPHILtered. Check out the interview by clicking here.

Last but not least, New Hope celebrated the highly anticipated Indianapolis 500 by attending the 500 Festival Parade. The 500 Festival provided 60 tickets and 13 handicap accessible parking passes to the individuals served by New Hope for this year’s parade. Everyone had so much fun seeing all the fun floats and performers!

This year’s Indy 500 celebrations were a success! Thank you to everyone who made this year’s Month of May special for the individuals we serve. We look forward to these traditions all year long at New Hope!
