Every March, we celebrate National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month to honor the amazing individuals with disabilities who make significant contributions to our community every day. This month also serves to promote inclusion of individuals with disabilities in our community. We recognize the barriers that individuals with disabilities face when accessing community resources and are dedicated to helping promote inclusion in central Indiana. March is always a great time to amplify our efforts and to shed light on this important topic.

This year’s national theme for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month is ‘A World of Opportunities’. The goal of this campaign is to highlight the ways in which we can work to remove obstacles and give individuals with disabilities the opportunities they deserve. To coincide with this theme, New Hope will be highlighting the amazing talents of some of the individuals we serve to show the incredible things that can be accomplished when individuals with disabilities are given opportunities to succeed.

New Hope will be highlighting the special talents of those we serve on social media. Make sure to follow us on InstagramTik TokFacebook and LinkedIn to see their stories this month. We will also be hanging posters around our Payne Road building and at our residential sites that coincide with this theme.

Another way New Hope is celebrating Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month is by hosting an informational session about our Art Therapy program on March 6th from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at our Payne Rd. facility.  At this event, we will provide breakfast and have a mini-art fair displaying wonderful pieces created by the individuals we serve. We will share how our licensed therapist encourages participants to express themselves through their art. This is a great way for community members to show support for the disability community in honor of Developmental Disability Awareness Month! If you are interested in joining us, RSVP to Jenny Pfeil at jpfeil@newhopeofindiana.org.

On March 13th, from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., New Hope will celebrate its 46th anniversary of serving individuals with disabilities. On this day, we will be hosting a ‘Drop in for Donuts’ event where we invite associates to come in and grab a donut and coffee before their shift starts. Not only does this event serve as an anniversary celebration, it is also a way we can thank our amazing associates for all they do for the individuals we serve. New Hope’s associates help individuals with disabilities thrive, and we can’t wait to celebrate with them as well.

Other organizations and companies in the Indianapolis community also plan to recognize and celebrate Developmental Disability Awareness Month this March. New Hope’s board member Bill Stinson is spearheading an initiative at the Indianapolis Airport in which they will be displaying art by individuals with disabilities throughout the month. Check out photos from last year’s Airport Art Show below.

We are excited to support individuals with disabilities in our community this coming month. To join us in our efforts, consider making a gift to help us continue offering ‘A World of Opportunities’ to the individuals we serve.
