For a majority of her life, Courtney Norman, who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy as a child, was cared for by her dad, stepmom and grandparents. Her dad Rick knew that as he and his parents aged, he needed a long-term plan for Courtney’s care.
For many of the families served by New Hope of Indiana, one of the most challenging times is when your child transitions into adulthood. For the Johnson and Smollen families, planning for their families’ futures was a priority. New Hope was there to offer a safe place for their children to find independence and to live their best lives.
Family has always been important to Christy Bowser. She has a picture of her mom, who has been gone for 20 years, next to her bed. She worries about her aging dad, who lives in Florida with her sister Michelle. While her mom and dad are important to her, it’s her sister Michelle with whom she is the closest. Christy lights up when she talks about Michelle, who has made it a priority to ensure for Christy’s health and well-being.
