Barbara Donaldson 7/30/1946 - 9/16/2020 Barbara moved into her home at New Hope in 2015 and her housemate and caregivers quickly became her family. She loved the color purple, any music she could dance to, a big smile, looking at magazines where she would pick out clothes she liked or food she wanted to eat. She was sassy and wanted to be the center of attention. She would call her staff "Mommy" as a term of endearment. She enjoyed coloring and doing other arts and crafts with her housemates. Greetings friends, Fall is here and the leaves are beginning to change color and crunch under our feet and paws! I love fall weather, and there are so many things to do. My favorite is a long walk through the woods. Although my age makes those long walks short ones now! Fall brings us pumpkins and apples and trips to the orchard. A Career Full of Smiles

New Hope client Peggy Sales spent the last two decades helping others at her job at Walgreens where she cleaned, stocked shelves and helped out wherever she was needed. The most rewarding part of her job, though, was sharing a smile with someone else. Anyone who knows Peggy knows that she is full of joy! She enjoys sharing that joy with others in her everyday life and especially enjoyed doing so at her job. Recently, Peggy retired after 25 years on the job at Walgreens. Every year in September, New Hope celebrates Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week, a few days set aside to celebrate the selfless caregivers who support the individuals we serve in so many ways. Direct Support Professionals, or DSPs, are a truly under-appreciated group of dedicated caregivers. Not only do they provide necessary healthcare, they are often the biggest source of support for our most vulnerable neighbors. Individuals with disabilities often rely on DSPs for their daily needs such as personal care, meal preparation, medication administration and more. These caregivers are often the much needed support that allows individuals with disabilities to live as independently as possible. Barry Clark 10/27/1955 - 8/9/2020 Barry was served by New Hope for many years. He even worked in the workshop at New Hope back in the facility days and spoke fondly of his experiences. He was an avid storyteller and history buff and loved discussing the inner workings of WWI planes. This month, Kelsie Winters is celebrating her 2-year service anniversary at New Hope of Indiana as Executive Assistant to the CEO, but it's really the rest of New Hope that's celebrating, because we are lucky to have Kelsie! Walking for Dreams is August 16th

Each year, our friends at the Sycamore Foundation organize Walking for Dreams, an annual walk to support dozens of local nonprofit organizations like New Hope. Due to COVID-19, May's Walking for Dreams has been rescheduled for August 16th and several changes have been made to make sure the event is safe and meaningful for everyone involved. New Hope will be participating virtually rather than gathering downtown as usual in hopes that our walkers will stay safe and healthy. Joy Martin 2/24/1951 - 7/6/2020 Joy lived at New Hope for over 30 years and the associates and residents became her family. She was the proud mother to her fur baby (cat), Ebony. Joy was a light to all those who knew her. She never met a stranger and enjoyed meeting other people while going out in the community. For several months, New Hope thought about how best to transform our training programs to both meet the State’s requirements and grow our associates to meet their potential.
