Remembering Our Friends

Michael McCormick 6/30/1965 - 12/8/2021 It is with great sadness that New Hope announces the passing of Michael McCormick on December 8th. Michael was served by New Hope for over 16 years! Michael spent many years attending New Hope’s Day Services at Payne Road where he enjoyed socializing with everyone. At his home in our Supported Living Program, Michael enjoyed making tea and coffee, visiting with his mom and brothers, playing Connect Four, working on puzzles, listening to music and socializing with his housemates. Choosing Caution, Not Fear

But as the days wore on, I began to feel insulated and comfortable existing in our bubble. A Note from Allison: Off to a Great Start

Happy New Year! I hope your year is off to a good start. New Hope’s year has already been fast and furious! Earlier this month, New Hope spent three days with surveyors from CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities), demonstrating the high-quality services that we offer. This survey allowed us to highlight the well trained caregivers on our team, and discuss the many ways that New Hope is making an impact in the lives of the individuals we serve. National Mentoring Month: Bringing Smiles

January is National Mentoring Month! At New Hope of Indiana mentorship is often an informal relationship and can be found woven throughout our mission. Much of the work that our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) do to support the individuals in their care involves mentoring them - teaching life skills for independence, practicing good decision-making, and encouraging them to set, meet and exceed personal goals. A Year in Review: 2021

As we enter into the new year, we are celebrating some of our favorite 2021 moments. January - February 2021 New Hope's caregivers became eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in January, a huge step toward better protecting the individuals we serve through the pandemic. Just a few weeks later, the individuals served in New Hope's residential programs began to receive their own vaccines. April 2021 Garden Club and other in-person volunteer activities resumed at New Hope's Day Services programs for the first time in 12 months. Growing up I lived with my single mother, Kim, my older brother Coi, my sister Maisha, younger brother Larry and younger cousin, Ashley in the Butler- Tarkington neighborhood located on the Northside of Indianapolis. It was a close-knit community of neighbors, family, and friends where everyone looked out for one another. Holiday Volunteers Bring Cheer to New Hope

This holiday season, New Hope has been fortunate to have the support of dozens of volunteers to bring some holiday cheer to the individuals we serve. In our Day Services program, nearly 20 volunteers made the holidays bright with seasonal crafts, holiday bingo, sing-alongs and visits from Santa and his elves. Happy New Year, friends! Can you believe 2021 is coming to an end? After making it through the early days of the pandemic in 2020, New Hope of Indiana entered 2021 full of hope. This year, though, the challenges of COVID-19 did not magically resolve themselves. Spreading Holiday Hope

This Giving Season we are thankful for partners like the Columbia Club for their extra support during the holidays. This month, young adults in New Hope's AIM program enjoyed some festive holiday ornament making alongside members of the Columbia Club Leadership Group. A Strong Family Bond

Family has always been important to Christy Bowser. She has a picture of her mom, who has been gone for 20 years, next to her bed. She worries about her aging dad, who lives in Florida with her sister Michelle. While her mom and dad are important to her, it’s her sister Michelle with whom she is the closest. The Norman Family

For a majority of her life, Courtney, who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy as a child, was cared for by her dad, stepmom and grandparents. Her dad Rick knew that as he and his parents aged, he needed a long-term plan for Courtney’s care. A friend told him about New Hope and after checking out the residential program, Rick knew Courtney could get better care from those who are trained to do so. We started the month full of gratitude after our most successful Silver Cup Celebration ever where you helped us raise over $121,000 to support New Hope’s mission! Four Decades of Loving Care

by Ken Rose, Manager of Capital Operations Anyone who knows New Hope’s Transportation Coordinator, Dorothy Nowlin-Love, knows how much pride she takes in maintaining our fleet of over 40 vehicles. She works tirelessly to ensure our vehicles remain safe, clean and in excellent shape, and has done so for the better part of her over-40 year career at New Hope of Indiana.
