Kofi Okrah, an incredible Direct Support Professional (DSP) at Brenden Park, celebrated 11 years at New Hope (and the longest job he’s ever had!) in March. Born in Ghana and later moving to New York, Kofi originally went to school to become a nurse. While he always knew he wanted a career centered on caring for others, he discovered nursing wasn’t quite the right fit. What he wanted most was the chance to truly know and relate to the people he served “not just be a revolving door of caregiving.” A desire for a quieter life eventually brought him to Indianapolis, where a friend already employed at New Hope encouraged him to join the team. While working at New Hope, he went to school to become a respiratory therapist. Kofi now incorporates all of his caregiving skills, both medical and personal, at Brenden Park to be able to provide the highest quality of care to those he serves. By taking the time to care for and know the individuals at his homes, Kofi has been able to build lasting relationships. One early memory still stands out: he once drove an individual more than two hours to a family gathering so she would not miss out. With relatives traveling in from all over, it turned into a powerful moment of connection and belonging, one Kofi still remembers with pride. In his limited free time, Kofi works on cars and values quality time with his wife and children. He appreciates the challenge of undertaking new tasks and observing the outcomes. Each associate at New Hope brings a unique background. Kofi’s dedication and compassion have made a significant difference during his 11 years of service. Thank you, Kofi.
