For 24 years, Adel Barsoum, a Direct Service Provider in the DePaul Group Home, has brought compassion, positivity and intentional care to the individuals he serves at New Hope.

With more than two decades of experience, Adel believes one of the most important qualities of a great Direct Service Provider is having a true serving spirit. His dedication to helping others extends beyond his time at New Hope. Adel also spent more than 20 years working at the Indiana School for the Blind, dedicating much of his career to supporting and serving others with love and care.

For those who may not be familiar with New Hope’s Group Home Program, it provides a fully supported living environment for individuals with disabilities across homes in Marion and Hamilton counties. In each home, individuals receive comprehensive support while being encouraged to build greater independence, participate in their communities and live life on their own terms.

Some of Adel’s favorite memories with the individuals he supports are the simple moments that make each day special—taking walks along the Monon, enjoying ice cream together and, of course, singing together. These everyday experiences are a meaningful part of the relationships Adel has built over the years.

Outside of work, Adel enjoys spending time outdoors. He loves taking walks with his wife of 40 years, hiking, attending church and fishing.

Adel’s positivity and genuine care radiate throughout the DePaul Group Home each day. New Hope is incredibly grateful for the experience, compassion and unwavering commitment he brings to the individuals he serves. After 24 years, Adel continues to show what it truly means to lead with a serving spirit.
