28 Sep - Charitable Sponsors are an Asset to the Community

As New Hope prepares for the fourth annual Silver Cup Celebration this week, we are feeling especially grateful for our many corporate sponsors and community partners who have made this year's event possible. At the very first Silver Cup Celebration, the event emcee, Anne Marie Tiernon, asked guests to take a moment to look at the list of sponsors and to take note, because we as consumers have a choice to make. Every time we go to the store, buy a car, open a bank account, repair our home or make any other buying decision, we are choosing how to...

27 Sep - Fall Festival Volunteers Needed

We are so excited to bring back one of New Hope's favorite traditions - the annual Fall Festival! After trying our hand at a virtual party last year, we are really looking forward to returning to an in-person event full of music, games and some great costumes! To make it really successful, though, we need some extra help. The easiest way to help is to make a donation or to shop our Amazon Wishlist for games, party favors and other supplies to help make the party a spooooky fun time! But if you're looking for something a little more meaningful,...

31 Aug - A Note from Allison: Working Overtime

Here is wishing you a Happy Labor Day! This month, New Hope was proud to welcome Indiana Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch as part of her delayed inaugural celebration. The Lt. Governor spoke to New Hope associates, clients, and families about her advocacy for the disability community and the value individuals with disabilities bring to our communities.  She also toured New Hope with her team and our friends from INARF. While at New Hope, Lt. Governor Crouch announced 12 new grants totaling $1.6 million made in partnership with the Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services (DDRS) to enhance community integration efforts across...

20 Aug - Lt. Gov. Crouch Urges Employers to Hire Hoosiers with Disabilities

Indiana Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch today urged Indiana employers to solve their workforce crisis by hiring individuals with disabilities. Crouch made her comments during a visit to New Hope of Indiana in Indianapolis as part of her Inauguration Celebration. “Nationally, the unemployment rate for individuals with developmental disabilities is over 70 percent,” Crouch said. “Right now, as I travel the state, I see more ‘Now Hiring’ signs than I have in my entire career as a public official. And people with disabilities are ready to step up and rejoin the workforce to bring Indiana to its most prosperous place in years.” Crouch...

27 Jul - Aktion Club Hosts Reunion

This July, New Hope's Aktion Club enjoyed its first in-person event since February 2020. The group hosted its reunion cookout with the help of volunteers from Kiwanis Club of Northwest Indianapolis. Despite some rain, the group enjoyed being together for the first time in well over a year. The meeting took place thanks to Kiwanis advisors and support from New Hope associates. While most of the club's business was pushed to the next meeting in order to make room for fellowship and fun, the group was excited to discuss plans to host the annual Fall Festival at New Hope in...

24 May - Back in Business

This May has, in many ways, felt nearly normal. While we're still wearing our masks, screening our health, keeping our distance and generally being cautious, we are also SO EXCITED to feel like the end of the pandemic is truly in sight. For New Hope, May is always a busy month full of community events, associate gatherings and more. Typically, our individuals spend time at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) as race teams prepare for the Indy 500 at the end of the month. While we weren't able to get back to the track, we still celebrated May the Indy...

15 Mar - Social Worker Appreciation: Terri Gee

March is a month of celebration at New Hope. We're recognizing Disability Awareness Month, New Hope's birthday, International Women's Day and, of course, Social Worker Appreciation Month! March 16th is World Social Work Day, so we are celebrating by thanking New Hope's own social workers. It's been a year for the history books, but New Hope's social workers have found unique and enriching activities to keep the individuals they serve happy and engaged throughout the pandemic. We are so thankful for each of them, no matter the role they play on #TeamNewHope! Terri Gee is one of the dedicated social workers...

27 Oct - A Note from Allison: Trying to Feel Normal

[caption id="attachment_33264" align="alignleft" width="300"] Allison and NHI Volunteer Drew Kogan at the 2019 Fall Festival[/caption]Happy October! October at New Hope is always a busy time at New Hope! We have many fun fall activities, catch up on training for our associates before the end of the year, prepare for the holiday season and hold our quarterly Board meeting. These regular events have brought a small sense of normalcy back to a year in which nearly every moment has felt uncertain. And while I know that our lives are far from “back to normal”, there are a few things that I hope...

27 Oct - New Hope’s Aktion Club Makes a Difference

[caption id="attachment_26150" align="alignleft" width="300"] 2019 Aktion Club Food Drive[/caption]Kiwanis Aktion Clubs are important opportunities for adults with disabilities to gain leadership skills and practice community-based philanthropy. In a typical year, New Hope's Kiwanis Aktion Club raises a few hundred dollars and collects some in-kind gifts for local nonprofits, but what members cherish more than anything is the sense of camaraderie and the opportunity to be a leader in our community. 2020 has been anything but typical though. This year, our dedicated Aktion Club Board of Directors has been working hard to keep everyone at New Hope in good spirits and...

28 Jul - Walking for Dreams is August 16th

Each year, our friends at the Sycamore Foundation organize Walking for Dreams, an annual walk to support dozens of local nonprofit organizations like New Hope. Due to COVID-19, May's Walking for Dreams has been rescheduled for August 16th and several changes have been made to make sure the event is safe and meaningful for everyone involved. New Hope will be participating virtually rather than gathering downtown as usual in hopes that our walkers will stay safe and healthy. This means that you can walk in your own neighborhood on your own schedule at your own convenience! Just find time the week...

In addition to their generous support, our friends at Pearson Ford matched the campaign's donations with a...

25 Feb - Zeller, Speak!

Greetings friends! This month, I celebrated my 11th birthday. That's 77 years in dog years. Some days I feel my age, but most of the time I still love the same things I did when I was a puppy: getting a good snack, playing with my favorite toys and getting so much love from all of my friends. Birthdays make you think about stuff like that...

25 Feb - A Note from Allison: My Proud Look

My mom has what we call her “proud look”.  Which is awesome because her kids and grandkids always know when she is proud of them.  If you would have seen me last week, you would have seen my equivalent of a “proud look”.  That is because New Hope of Indiana was accredited as a United Way of Central Indiana agency.  This was the first class of accredited agencies for UWCI in many, many years.  This accreditation is significant because it tells the greater Indianapolis Community that New Hope demonstrates "a responsiveness to community needs; diversity and inclusion in governance, operations,...

14 Oct - Mission Minute: Traditions – Old and New

by Kathe Rae, Manager of Mission Integration and Volunteers As we approach the holiday season, we often think about and celebrate traditions. At New Hope, the holidays seem to begin in October with the annual Fall Festival. Traditions, especially at New Hope, often include everyone’s favorite thing: eating! We like to cook together, host big family dinners, bake cookies and maybe even serve meals at a shelter. For most of us, the holiday season means celebrating many traditions. Some people continue to brave the crowds at the mall the day after Thanksgiving each year. Others decorate...

30 Apr - New Hope Raises Over $27,000 for Art Therapy

Thanks to all of our friends and partners who attended last week's Silver Cup Celebration and helped us raise over $27,000 to expand and support our Art Therapy Program! Starting with a performance of New Hope's choir and featuring a beautiful video with some of our artists, a poem written and presented by Robert Hoey and an impressive piano performance from Tom Murray, New Hope's creativity was evident throughout the entire event. Guests were able to shop some one-of-a-kind New...
