A Note from Allison

27 Sep - A Note from Allison: A Great Start to Fall

I hope you are enjoying these early days of fall! This September has been a busy month for New Hope of Indiana. September is the month we officially celebrate New Hope's Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). September 12-18 was national DSP Appreciation Week. We are always so appreciative of our DSPs, but after 18 months of their amazing dedication during a pandemic, we are more appreciative than ever! Thanks to many of you, we were also able to share the gratitude of our friends with these hardworking DSPs. During the same week in September, New Hope spent many hours providing in person...

31 Aug - A Note from Allison: Working Overtime

Here is wishing you a Happy Labor Day! This month, New Hope was proud to welcome Indiana Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch as part of her delayed inaugural celebration. The Lt. Governor spoke to New Hope associates, clients, and families about her advocacy for the disability community and the value individuals with disabilities bring to our communities.  She also toured New Hope with her team and our friends from INARF. While at New Hope, Lt. Governor Crouch announced 12 new grants totaling $1.6 million made in partnership with the Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services (DDRS) to enhance community integration efforts across...

27 Jul - A Note from Allison: New Hope’s New Year

Happy July! This month, we continue to celebrate zero cases of COVID-19 and increasing numbers of vaccinated individuals at New Hope. In fact, 100% of individuals served in our residential programs and in Day Services have received at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine! We believe strongly that this will keep #TeamNewHope healthy and safe even as we see COVID cases on the rise with the new Delta variant. We are also excited to welcome our administrative staff and supervisors back to our Payne Road offices in a hybrid environment. It is great to see people in person again! Thanks...

29 Jun - A Note from Allison: Thriving at New Hope

Hello New Hope Friends, Spring is a time of renewal and new growth, but summer is a time to thrive. At New Hope of Indiana, we are excited to be thriving in so many ways! This month, New Hope was named an IndyStar Top Workplace for the third year in a row! While this achievement alone would be great news, it is especially rewarding this year. The Top Workplace award is determined entirely by the feedback of New Hope associates through an anonymous survey that uniquely measures 15 culture drivers that are critical to the success of any organization. This...

25 May - A Note From Allison: Feeling Normal

Happy Memorial Day! As the weather warms up and our community’s health continues to improve, the light at the end of the pandemic is closer than ever. The individuals we serve residentially have had ZERO cases of COVID-19 at New Hope of Indiana since January 28, and with the support of our dedicated associates and the families of those we serve, we expect to see this trend continue. Despite the recent changes to mask recommendations, #TeamNewHope continues to wear masks, maintain social distancing as much as possible and minimize risk to those we serve by staying home when sick. These tactics...

27 Apr - A Note from Allison: Supporting #TeamNewHope

Happy Spring! April was another month full of celebration at New Hope! We were happy to recognize Autism Awareness Month in support of the scores of individuals we serve who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. These individuals are some of the most talented, unique and resilient people you will meet, and we are proud to serve them and to work alongside them every day. April is also Volunteer Appreciation Month. If a global pandemic has proved nothing else, at least we know how dedicated our volunteers are to serving our mission. Special thanks to our friends at College Park...

30 Mar - A Note from Allison: A Month of Celebrations

Happy spring, friends! This month was full of celebration! March is Disability Awareness Month, Social Work Month, and New Hope’s birthday. As our organization marked 43 years of service to the disability community, we shared a simple but hopeful message: the future is looking bright! A year ago New Hope and the rest of the world took cover as we prepared for the arrival of coronavirus in our lives. Today, I’m so happy to say that nearly 100% individuals served in congregate settings and over 60% of New Hope associates have received at least one of their COVID-19 vaccines. Individuals served...

23 Feb - A Note from Allison: Advocates Needed

Happy February, friends! Onward - that is my "one word" for this year! After nearly a year of COVID, we all want to move onward with our lives! With the vaccine being available to New Hope’s direct caregivers we have slowly but surely begun to move onward. This week things will speed up. Beginning Thursday, New Hope nurses will vaccinate 190 New Hope individuals living in congregate settings! Next week, New Hope nurses will also provide vaccines to DSPs and other direct caregivers at a clinic in our Payne Road building. As I have said before, this will really bring new...

26 Jan - A Note from Allison: Be Brave

Winter greetings friends, I hope your new year is off to a happy and healthy start! I doubt that 2021 has been exactly what any of us expected so far. But after the violence at the Capitol on January 6th, I was encouraged by the words of Amanda Gorman’s inaugural poem last week: “We will rebuild, reconcile and recover and every known nook of our nation and every corner called our country, our people diverse and beautiful will emerge, battered and beautiful. When day comes we step out of the shade, aflame and unafraid. The new dawn blooms as we...

29 Dec - A Note from Allison: Onward

Happy New Year! If you’re feeling at all like I am, you are probably counting down the days to the new year with anticipation for better times to come. This year has been tremendously challenging and has brought with it much stress, uncertainty and sorrow. I am so relieved that 2020 is finally coming to an end and that we can begin to look forward to 2021 with wishes of hope, healing and unity. Even though 2020 has been tough - very tough - there have been many bright lights. The first was, and still is, New Hope’s hundreds of frontline caregivers:...

Thank you to all our dedicated associates, loving families and generous friends who continue to make New Hope such a...

27 Oct - A Note from Allison: Trying to Feel Normal

[caption id="attachment_33264" align="alignleft" width="300"] Allison and NHI Volunteer Drew Kogan at the 2019 Fall Festival[/caption]Happy October! October at New Hope is always a busy time at New Hope! We have many fun fall activities, catch up on training for our associates before the end of the year, prepare for the holiday season and hold our quarterly Board meeting. These regular events have brought a small sense of normalcy back to a year in which nearly every moment has felt uncertain. And while I know that our lives are far from “back to normal”, there are a few things that I hope...

29 Sep - A Note from Allison: Welcoming Change

Happy Autumn! As we welcome the first days of the fall season, I can't believe how quickly the summer has gone by. The changing of a season always reminds me that change is often something to be celebrated. This year we have changed the ways we communicate, offer services, hire and train associates, and stay connected to our community. Believe it or not, New Hope has embraced new technology and is even hosting an online event this week! (Camp Raffle is Thursday, October 1st at 6pm!) These changes have sometimes been difficult to adjust to and have placed additional burdens on...

25 Aug - A Note from Allison: Celebrate DSPs

Happy Hot August! As a parent, others will tell you that the days are long, but the months are quick. That has certainly been true at New Hope this year. Each day has brought new challenges and opportunities for us to grow in our mission, but the busy pace of the day-to-day has made the months go by so quickly. I can hardly believe that August is coming to an end! While this summer wasn’t quite normal, we’ve been happy to find the small pleasures of life still make us smile. The individuals we serve have enjoyed afternoons in the garden, connecting...

28 Jul - A Note from Allison: An Unexpected Year

Summer greetings to our New Hope family! July is the beginning of New Hope’s fiscal year when we take time to reflect on our progress toward our strategic goals and our plans for the new year. And while this reflection has often brought me pride, this year I am especially in awe of the amazing accomplishments of our #TeamNewHope! In the first half of our fiscal year, we were so excited to launch Cheese and Thank You, the unique food truck program which provides vocational training to young adults with disabilities. We also welcomed several new young people to our family...

26 Jun - A Note from Allison: Finally Some Good News

Hello New Hope friends, June has brought us some much-needed good news! All of the clients in our homes are negative for COVID-19! What else? No associates have tested newly positive since May 13th! We are finally feeling some of the weight of this spring’s work being lifted from our shoulders, and it is all thanks to the hard work of our frontline caregivers. They have worked tirelessly to provide loving service and at the same time wear PPE, keep our homes clean, the individuals we serve happy and their workplaces safe. We acknowledge that this may not be the...

26 May - A Note from Allison: Getting Back on Track

Dear New Hope friends, Today I am grateful to report that New Hope has seen a marked decline in COVID-19 activity among the individuals we serve and our associates. While this virus continues to affect those we serve, their caregivers and the way we run our programs every day, it feels like, for now, we are on the mend. As we begin to look forward to what is next for New Hope, I am cautiously optimistic that we can begin to move toward reopening some of our services which have been halted by this pandemic. Just as Governor Holcomb has...

28 Apr - A Note from Allison: We Will Fight This Together

Hello from New Hope of Indiana- Just like many of you, I live in a constant state of worry, hearing so much bad news and being constantly concerned about the New Hope individuals served and their caregivers. I am sad to report that the coronavirus has reached New Hope and our amazing caregivers are doing everything they can do to keep the individuals served and themselves safe and healthy. At this point, approximately 5% of the individuals currently being served have a confirmed case of COVID19. Luckily, the vast majority of these individuals are still living at home and are either...

30 Mar - A Note from Allison: #TeamNewHope

Hello loyal Heartbeat readers, Wow! So much has changed since I last wrote to you. In just one month, New Hope’s entire operation has shifted to accommodate a new focus on the health and safety of those we serve and the people who are directly serving them. While this is always our top priority, our operations have taken a turn to adjust to this new normal. We have suspended Day Services, transitioned therapy services to telehealth delivery and restricted visitors in all New Hope homes to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Our associates are monitoring their own health before every shift...

25 Feb - A Note from Allison: My Proud Look

My mom has what we call her “proud look”.  Which is awesome because her kids and grandkids always know when she is proud of them.  If you would have seen me last week, you would have seen my equivalent of a “proud look”.  That is because New Hope of Indiana was accredited as a United Way of Central Indiana agency.  This was the first class of accredited agencies for UWCI in many, many years.  This accreditation is significant because it tells the greater Indianapolis Community that New Hope demonstrates "a responsiveness to community needs; diversity and inclusion in governance, operations,...
