Every fall, we celebrate our Direct Support Professionals during National DSP Week. At New Hope we have a lot to celebrate because we have the BEST DSPs! Our DSPs are at the heart of everything we do. They provide 24/7 compassionate support to those we serve and ensure individuals are happy and leading their best lives. Additionally, DSPs make up the majority of New Hope’s associates. Out of our 350 associates, 73% are DSPs!
I thought I’d also share a breakdown of how long New Hope’s DSPs have been with us! As you can see, nearly half of our DSPs have been with us for over 5 years!
New Hope is supporting a bill recently proposed in Congress that would give DSPs a separate category within the Standard Occupational Classification System. This would provide an accurate picture of the challenges and opportunities for DSP positions which would allow for better data collection on the workforce trends. This data could help us tackle the ongoing recruitment and retention crisis. To read more about this bill, check out our article in Inside INdiana Business.
You may be aware of the looming government shutdown that would happen at the end of the month. I want to assure families and guardians that nothing will change when it comes to your loved ones’ services or care even if the shutdown occurs.
New Hope has lots of exciting things to be hopeful about, and I am very excited to share those with you in November. In the meantime, have a wonderful fall and come volunteer at our fall festival on October 26th. You will be happy you did!
